When I get into the game in the 90s there was not path to becoming a VC other than having a frat brother at a VC firm or having gone to HBS or Stanford.
I was a nobody in the industry and started my own event called "Open Angel Forum" and then got the gig as a Sequoia Scout. Now ever venture firm seems to have a scout program.
