There wasn't a job board dedicated to contract work, so I built one.

I've spent the last number of months looking for some steady income while I continue to let my projects develop. I'm not really looking for a "career" or "lifestyle" position, just straight-forward 1099 jobs where I am assigned a specific task and can execute it in exchange for hourly pay.

In other words, I'm looking for IT Contract Jobs.

As I conducted my search, I was surprised to see there weren't any job boards built for specifically this. Whenever I did stumble upon a contract position and applied, I was flabbergasted to see just how many others also applied. While the traditional full-time positions with benefits and sexual harassment training often had between 20 to 150 applicants, every 1099 position I found had at least 800 applicants; some had over 1000!

Clearly, IT contract jobs are in demand. The secret is out about the advantages, such as the ability to write off business expenses for tax saving purposes (laptops, monitors, desks, office chairs) and the flexibility of conducting commerce via an LLC or Corporation as opposed to yourself personally (no tax withholding, get paid in full up front and settle up on taxes later).

With so much demand, why wasn't there a job board for these people to browse the specific kind of jobs they are looking for? I asked around and could not find the answer, so I spun up Just Contract Jobs.

I'm importing contract jobs from other sites at the moment so there is plenty to find for anyone looking for work.

For companies or people looking to hire contractors, we plan to charge $199 for a 30 day Standard Post or $299 for a Featured Post that gets highlighted and pinned to the top of the board for the full 30 days. As part of our launch, we're offering free standard posts for Indie Hackers readers with coupon code INDIE. Throw a job up and let me know if you have any issues or problems with the site.

Hi, great work. Can you share where you get the job postings to backfill your jobboard? I've just released a new Job Posting API v2 and would be interested what the competition has to offer.

Great idea! Isn't it surprising to see the lack of resources available that are specifically designed for the job seeker?
I didn't encounter jobs from monster.com on the board. I've heard it has a larger concentration of contract jobs.
I'm working within the job search space myself (check out https://www.theconnectbot.com/). All the best!

This concept is great, but looks like you need to flesh out the product a bit more. When I go to "companies" the list is blank.

How do you plan on either acquiring job seekers or job posters?

      Hey thanks for looking!

Marketing is always the struggle for me, which is why I started here on IH.

The partner jobs do not show up under "Companies" as they are just pulled in from other boards. I'm offering free posts with coupon in an effort to get companies to add their positions and get the site populated.

LinkedIn seems like the obvious place to try to attract eyes, but I have a chicken/egg problem. Until there are jobs listed, no one will visit, and until people visit, no jobs will be posted. The partner jobs is my attempt to have at least something for people to see but clearly I'll need to add more.

    Hi.

Took a quick look. Couple of points -- You get what you pay for regarding quality!!

The site doesn't list the companies under the "company" tab.

The site has jobs scraped from other sites. Be prepared for a take-down notice.

The top/nav --right area has a couple of icons. Unless I actually 'clic" on them, I have no clue what they are. You might want to implement a "hoover" in the css

    Keep hustling!!

Hey, thanks so much for looking.

Yeah, the Partner jobs don't show up under "Companies" which is a bit annoying. While the current Partner jobs are not from our site, the links go straight to the partner's site so I don't think they will mind if I push them free traffic until we get some more traction.

Great note on the icons, I'll get some hover action going.
