How I got 3,000 visitors to my landing page from growth hacking

I often used to see how people would get free traffic to their website, and it always seemed like magic to me. But now that I've finally experienced my own success with growth hacking, I want to share exactly what I did for my project justbeepit.com and maybe help someone.

I used a strategy I call "infinite marketing glitch" 🪄

imigur.com

  1. It started with an unsatisfying Product Hunt launch. We were able to get #1 of the day, but despite that the traffic was much lower than expected. We got around 800 visitors... (our launch as a proof)

  2. After those unsatisfying results I decided to write a blog post: "BulletProof Strategy to get #1 on Product Hunt." (This got us 1,200 visitors — more than the PH launch itself.) I posted it in multiple places: Twitter, Linkedin, Reddit, Indie Hackers, etc. Here is a post example that did well on Reddit.

  3. Once my post went viral, I posted on Twitter: "How a reddit post drove more traffic than the #1 spot on PH." This twitter post itself went viral, generating over 45k impressions (~450 visitors).

Twitter Post

  1. After my Twitter post went viral, I reposted the same post to Reddit and Indie Hackers. Here is the Reddit post (1,450 visitors).

The core idea is:

  1. You get any success (small or big) (example: first 100 users)

  2. You tell people how you got this success (this drives traffic)

  3. You tell people how you telling people about your success drove even more traffic (which drives more traffic)

  4. Keep doing this...

So if you have some cool success stories, don't keep them to yourself, tell about them to the world and those stories may bring you even more success 🙂

Haha just read that on Reddit! Sounds interesting but I can't post anything here yet :( (not that I'm asking for upvotes lol)

  2. 3

Thanks for sharing mate) The Reddit community is quite a judgy one but if the post are structured correctly then it's all fine)

    1. 1

Historically reddit users have good bullshit detectors and hate being "sold at"... but I think these days the platform has become way more mainstream, and so there's a lot of people who get excited by things like this. What made it popular is ruined by its popularity.

    2. 1

Yes, I was able to find a way to keep a balance between self promotion and being valuable to the community

      1. 1

Can you share your email, would love to get in contact and share my proj if u dont mind)

  3. 3

Crazy that a #1 ProductHunt launch didn't get more traffic! Is that telling?

  4. 3

Very interesting as an approach, and I like the fact that you used what you had to get what you wanted. Did you already have traffic and a steady following on these channels?

    1. 1

Hi, not really. I was new to those subreddits. The only place I had some following was on Twitter.

  5. 3

Thanks for sharing, it's like that saying, any news is good news. Even posting failure stories can drive traffic, kind of like people wanting to see the accident.

    1. 1

True, just share whatever yo have done. I will start posting about our failures soon.

  6. 2

How about the quality of their traffic? What is the engagement rate? How about the conversions? Raw numbers don't mean much.

  7. 2

Can't wait to read how much traffic this post has driven to your site :-)

  8. 2

Great strategy! Is this post also a part of it? haha

    1. 1

  12. 2

Thank you for sharing your valuable insights on modern home construction, and providing clarity on essential materials and techniques. It was a very informative discussion!

    Definitely going to do this!

  14. 2

    You rolled the snowball!

  15. 2

    That's a good story.

I shared how I made my first $1090, then how I made $2.8k a month, and so on.
    All of them went viral.

  16. 2

haha that's irony, but glad it works ;)

  17. 2

This is an amazing strategy. 👏👏👏

  18. 2

Awesome Job man! Thanks for sharing!

  19. 2

That's a great support and advice. Appreciate for penning it down.

  20. 2

Awesome! Congratulations on a successful launch A couple of question,

    • How does your CTA conversion look like?
    • What kind of audience-work did you do before getting your #1 product of the day
    1. 1
      1. You mean from these posts? For some of them it was low, around 3%, for others around 8%.
      2. Do you mean audience for PH? or in general? We contacted over 1k people from PH before the launch if this is what you are asking
      1. 1

Thanks for such a detailed response man!

        1. I suppose I was just curious what the (unique users / CTA clicks) was like — but the 5% point difference looks very significant. I wonder why some are as low as 3%, and others 8%?

        2. Thank you! Were 1k people just like cold messages/emails? Or was it more organic like from your newsletter network?

        1. 2
          1. It depends on the subreddits, different audience for each
          2. Here is our product hunt strategy: https://medium.com/@farid_plus/bulletproof-strategy-to-win-at-product-hunt-5da986f1a55f
          1. 2

What the heck, that medium post is a goldmine. Just shared it with my team, thank you so much!

  21. 2

Saw the Reddit post as well. Awesome job

  22. 2

It's super cool how you kept the momentum going. I need to get the first few visitors

    1. 1

Thank you! You can post about any strategies you have tried, regardless whether they have worked out or not.

  23. 1

    Interesting! thanks for sharing ;)
That's huge metrics but what about conversion of this visitors? Which platforms drive the most potential customers than simple visitors?

  24. 1

If your business is getting paid by traffic (e.g. you sell ads and get paid by # of impressions), then it's a good idea. But traffic is a vanity metric. What matters is how many convert to paid users. Are you tracking conversion rates by source?

PH traffic is probably better because they visit you to get what you offer, the others are just visiting for amusement. I just looked at one of your posts, you're not even saying what your product does, I guess many people just clicked to check what it's all about.

  25. 1

My only critique on this would be you have to be sure you've got something of value to show (how exactly you got the traffic etc) otherwise it will read as clickbait/very empty.

  26. 1

By leveraging social media platforms and crafting shareable content, I tapped into viral marketing to attract a significant portion of the 3,000 visitors. Implementing SEO strategies and optimizing the landing page for search engines played a crucial role in organic traffic growth. Engaging in strategic partnerships and collaborations with influencers helped amplify the reach and drive more traffic. Utilizing email marketing campaigns and creating compelling, personalized messages encouraged repeat visits from the audience. Implementing A/B testing and continuous optimization based on user analytics further contributed to sustained growth in landing page traffic.

  27. 1

I also did this same thing with my Instagram channel and I have got more shares than the usual one.

  28. 1

    rinse and repeat

i love this congrats on the launches

how do you deal with the negativity and haters on the platforms, especially reddit

    1. 1

From one side I don't want to spend my time and start a discussion with them, but on the other side they affect the quality of my post, so I have to reply to them.
