Is crypto getting culty or is it just me?

Crypto and NFTs are becoming culty. Or maybe they've always been culty.

😇 Cult leaders claim to have some knowledge that their followers don't understand. It's their best tool. Followers come because they want to learn and benefit from the knowledge. Once they've tasted a hint of some truth, they'll do just about anything for more.

And that untouchable knowledge works as a shield too. Whenever a follower sees a leader's abusive behaviors, they assume that they just don't understand because they aren't on the leader's level.

🤑 Crypto "experts" are popping up all over the place who claim to understand crypto — something which most people don't understand. Followers come because they want to learn and benefit from the knowledge. Once they make a little money, they'll pay to learn more.

And when they really look at what's going on and see how ridiculous some of it is, they assume they just don't understand it well enough.

😇 People join cults. Once they're a member, they are incentivized to recruit and evangelize (regardless of whether their lives are improving from it).

🤑 People get on the crypto bandwagon. Once they spend a buck, they are incentivized to recruit and evangelize (regardless of whether it's working out for them).

The list goes on.

Getting definite cult vibes.

Either that, or I just don't understand crypto 🤣 🤷‍♂️

just like in anything, there will always be those people that see an opportunity to make a lot of easy money and take it. but there's a lot of really cool and beneficial applications to crypto and nfts besides all the hype / exclusivity / ponzi / culty / pfp nonsense. i think the future is bright for crypto and nfts both, i wouldn't write off the technology as a whole just because there's a lot of scams / ponzis / etc. out there.

I agree that there are benefits (though they seem to be offset by the negative aspects)... The problem is those people you mentioned.

In the wellness space, people are just trying to grow and learn. Nothing wrong with that. But then these predatory people come in and take advantage. Which means that anybody new wellness, who doesn't know what to look out for, gets screwed.

I think crypto is going down the same road. And while that's not "crypto's" fault, it is problematic for crypto and anyone interested in crypto.

The future probably is bright for crypto — people will support anything that can make them money. But there will be a lot of destruction along the way IMO.

Some aspects of it certainly seem like a ponzi to me.

Yes, it feels like cult to me too. But the bubble may a while to go yet.

This current crash is pretty severe from what I've heard. But yeah, people aren't going to stop putting it on a pedestal anytime soon.
