Tips for growing an audience on Youtube? 🤔

Hey Indiehackers!

I'm currently trying to grow an audience on my youtube channel, where I talk about my journey as a 16 year old web developer and high school dropout.

Do you have any tips on how I could grow an audience on Youtube?

Or maybe you know someone who grew an audience on Youtube and shares what they learned?

Either way, feel free to comment down below any advice you have for someone trying to grow an audience on Youtube.

    • co-ops with other channels, cross-talking in each other's channel, doing a joined video/challenge...
    • Doing some clickbait topics, title, and screenshots
    • generally doing stuff that's popular to get picked up
    • Cross-posting/broadcasting other channels, like live twitch+live fb, using images in fb posting them to ig. doing fb posts about the new vid
    • if your building games, participate in popular game jams for extra exposure

I started a YouTube channel in December. We so 3-hour live streams (Dutch) teaching people the basics of coding. We are at 165 subscribers at the moment. Not a huge audience but are Watch time metric is doing well. Which I believe is important for the YouTube algorithm. We also use Meetup to promote are Livestreams which gave us some traction at the start.

Oh that's an interesting strategy, what's your youtube channel? (add a link)

I’m no expert, but here are my tips:

    • Amazing-quality videos (no cheap editing or below 1080p video)
    • Quality content
    • Frequent posting
    • Make it relatable to not just one target audience. (So make it a channel not just for developers.)

    Best of luck, Josh!

Hi @BraydenTW , can you elaborate on your last point?
Shouldn't you on the contrary try to niche down as much as possible? Make the best content for a specific target?
I guess it also depends on the goal of the channel. Why? What do you want to get out of it?

        Yes, I can.

For example, if Josh were to make his channel mainly for developers, he would only attract developers. This would probably be because his videos are all about coding and stuff.

But if he makes his coding about coding, entrepreneurship, design, and regular “day in the life stuff”, he will probably get more subscribers and a larger audience.

        Does this make sense?

Wow those are some good tips! Thanks Brayden
