Trying Cal Newport’s digital minimalism for a few weeks was like putting on noise-canceling headphones. But it wasn't easy to sustain a full digital abstention for too long before I wanted to move on to the second part of his process. The crux of digital minimalism is to take a considered approach to using technology to achieve more productivity and peace of mind. This is explained in Cal's book, where he suggests taking a cease-fire from nonessential app technology of 30 days and then re-introducing them afterwards with purpose in phase 2 of the process.
