Selling to ecommerce companies? Don't make this mistake.

The biggest problem I see for folks selling to ecommerce companies is that they get a list from Store Leads or BuiltWith and then use another app to find the LinkedIn Profile / emails of people.

From there they put their offer ("we do X!") and spam everyone they can get contact information on.

If you're doing this, you're likely reaching people who have been spammed by everyone else.

That's why no on is reading your email.
No one is responding to your connection request.
And if they do open your email, it's why they aren't responding.

I don't blame you, it's exactly what we did when we first started our cold email outreach agency. We've sent tens of thousands of emails to brand owners and the hard earned lesson is this:

  • You aren't finding your ideal customers. You're just finding people who "could" be your customer (ie. has a Shopify store)
  • You're personalizing based on persona, not pain. (AI-written first lines is a total fail - brand owners have gotten the same damn "loved that your selling a product that is really cool!" hundreds of times).

Here's how you sell to ecommerce stores:

1. Find Pain

Selling is about transformation. Take 5 of your most successful customers and figure out what they were doing BEFORE and what they're doing AFTER your solution.

You want to create a narrative where you can transform your potential customers from the BEFORE to the AFTER, and show them how easy it is with your offer.

2. Identify Pain Signals

What signals exist that you can use to determine if someone is a good fit for your product?

For example:

Let's say you have a Shopify app that improves SEO for a shop by auto-generating product descriptions.

One way to identify if they have this pain is by looking at their current product descriptions and/or their SEO rankings to see if they're falling behind on critical keywords.

3. Use Their Competitors To Close The Deal

Ecommerce is incredibly competitive and every brand owner knows this.

They're constantly trying to keep up with the changing trends in their niche. If you can point out their competitors that have already solved the problem you solve (bonus points if your product/service solved it).

In the example above, don't tell them that you have an app that improves SEO for a shop.

Instead, focus on how their SEO rankings are behind their top 3 competitors and you can change that with your app.

This 1 idea of using competitive data ended up working so well we created a free competitive analysis tool to automate it.

Drop your offer down below and I'll respond with a few ways to structure it so it's easy to sell to ecommerce stores!
