Indie Hackers what are you building over the weekend?

Some founders stay offline during the weekend, but most of us keep hustling!

I am working on my SEO strategy.

What's your tasks this weekend?

Sadly, nothing this weekend :(. I'm really struggling to generate ideas, I need a good framework for generating valuable ideas. To those working on projects, keep going, I'm rooting for you!

    1. 3

A bit of downtime doesn't hurt. Cheers.

    2. 2

For me the greatest ideas always come when working on something and suddenly encountering the small problem which triggers the creation of a new idea.

      1. 2

Thanks for your input Vlad, I will keep that in mind :).

    3. 1

hey Chris! you should download "SimilarWeb" and see websites that have a lot of hits in your areas of interest (like 10M+). See what keywords are leading people to get there and how their competitors are ranking as well. Click around. Its a fun exercise and you can uncover somethings you didn't know are as popular as they seem.

      1. 1

That’s a great suggestion! thanks , I will give SimilarWeb a go and hopefully I’ll come up with some ideas :).

  2. 4

I'm working on upping my SEO game for https://magicinterviews.com 📈

  3. 4

I just finished https://rankon.top working over past 12 weekends. It’s a largest collection of SEO resources to rank your website on top.

    1. 1

Hi @pankajsingh. I don't want to be an SEO. I would simply like to learn enough to be dangerous. What's one resource you would recommend from rankon.top?

      1. 1

Go with link building resources. It’s impact your 75% SEO.

        1. 1

Thanks so much. I'll take a look.

    2. 1

Definitely going to try it out!

  4. 4

I am working on getting some initial customers for marketee.io

  5. 3

    Working on https://superreminder.app/

You also have this problem: you keep finding cool resources, websites and then forget about them. How about creating a reminder to revisit that website?

My free Chrome extension allows you to create a reminder for any website and get notified via native notifications. Simple as that.

I also support recurring reminders, so you can keep spying on your competitors 👀

    1. 4

I am going to try it out, sounds good!

    2. 3

sweet! needed something like this. will definitely check it out. Landing page is very sleek too, did you build it yourself or did you use a template?

      1. 2

Thank you :) ! It is a free tailwind template but I heavily modified it

  6. 3

Working on launching 2 new products on https://pinggy.io by next week. One is web debugger to view / edit / replay requests. The other one is a terminal UI.

    1. 1

      Good job, productive weekend!

  7. 3

Keen on building Productivity Tools that work inside Whatsapp.
Struggling a bit to validate or get feedback on these 2 potential products.
Tried running FB ads, posted on Reddit. Not too much responses or im expecting more than I should.

    1. Set Reminders in WhatsApp with a text
      Website: https://yep.so/p/whatsapp-reminders
    2. Receive and respond to messages from FB, IG, Twitter, Linkedin etc within WhatsApp itself
      Website: https://all-in-whtsapp.earlybird.rocks/
    1. 2

I think these are great ideas!

      1. 1

Thanks.. would you pay for it and how much in $/INR?

    2. 1

hey! managing all my social inboxes from whatsapp sounds awesome. signed up for the waitlist.

      1. 1

Thanks man.. appreciate it.. What would you pay for this monthly?

Would have 1 month free I think.

I would make it totally free.. but the API's and things cost a small bit of money.

    3. 1

Hey this is nice products! Signed up for early access! Did you tried to launch on Product Hunt? Community is good and supportive with feedback there, and I have a small suggestion, instead of running two separate products merge into one as additional features since they are both related to WhatsApp, it would be easier to do marketing and it would look like more complete product with multiple features, just a suggestion...

      1. 1

Thanks appreciate it. Yea the goal would be have several use cases over time. But to start.. have to launch just 1.. its better to get something live then work for 3-4mths on 2, and then no one wants it .. or theres some greater issue that needs to be fixed

        1. 1

For me personally both products are good, but I feel more value proposition with second one at least for the beginning, with social media replies you have good USP and you can start charging immediately as it would help marketers to manage multiple social media replies at once from WhatsApp.

  8. 3

Adding new memes and filters to What to Meme

  9. 3

I just finished the minimum loveable product for https://airycards.com/. It's a QR code business card on your phone. I'm going to Microconf tomorrow and I am planning on dogfooding it.

    1. 1

good luck! I like the idea of an "all in one" QR code to share your info. I've used the LinkedIn-native one, but it would be sweet to have this for other apps as well.

  10. 3

I built an AI-powered productivity tool called Virtuo.

  11. 3

I am working on an 2 feature updates, b-plan and social media marketing strategy for MDapp. I reached 100+ users today, all organic, no add spend. I am working alone and don't have a social media following. I am tired, but I have a smile and a wierd feeling that despite my lack of training as an engineer, my training as a doctor helps me build empathy and helping people to the best of my ability. Please give it a try, anything and everything helps 🚀🚀 🙏🙏😊😊

    1. 1

Good job, but tough market to be in.

      1. 1

Yeah, but I am a healthcare professional, this is my market. Lol

        1. 1

The good thing is, if you can make a small dent in that market someone will acquire you instantly. I live in India and I will tell you right now on my phone I have Practo, PharmEasy and Tata1Mg. Many big players in the game but persistence can take you to success!

          1. 1

Hi, thanks, I am indian too, but I am in Canada now. Did you try my app? Those companies are overvalued, lol. I just have a prototype, it's gotten decent reviews. Please try the app and let's make that dent. : )

            1. 1

I am not Indian but I moved to live in India from Europe 😁, there seems to be an issue to create account in the app.

              1. 1

Yeah, u have to restart the app after creating a password and logging in, there is an onboarding form, but it's locked till I register the business and license a HIPPA API. The use as a guest gives you all features as well. Keep the app, will update soon, hopefully

  12. 3

Eurotripr.com - a neverending dream project to help others travel to Europe.

Been doing data entry for country/city/things-to-do details an costs, and creating travel itineraries.

It feels like it is never ending and I want to stop - again - but I am just trying to power through it.

Good luck everyone on your own projects. Keep moving forward!

    1. 1

Hey! I think it's fantastic! I just returned from Europe and I am going again in a few months, so it's beneficial.

Data automation is the way, although I am unsure of any reliable source to gather them. You could scrape websites.

But here's a better idea: let visitors tell if the price is accurate! This is how google figures out if a place is closed or if it has changed anything on maps.

      1. 1

Automation is definitely key, but I can't locate a usable/affordable/reliable API that will provide the data I want in the format I want.

I'm getting current data from multiple sources: websites, pdfs, personal travels, other people's travels, so I haven't been able to think of a 'simple' way to automate this process.

I just look at this as "things that don't scale" and try to power through.
My end goal similar to what you suggest) is to have users crowdsource the data eventually. But I probably need SOME data to attract users before anyone will source it.

NOTE: I am interviewing people who have traveled to EUrope for the site. If you are interested I'd love to interview you. I find even people who think they have little experience have a lot to share and fun stories to help others gain confidence to plan their own trips.

    2. 1

You can try using some automation to help you with data entry.

      1. 1

I really can't think of a way to automate this. I'm grabbing data from multiple sources manually since I can't find useful/reliable/affordable APIs or not-copy-writed sites/data to scrape.

In the end, even if I input the data to CSV, I'm just as quick manually entering it into the tool I built for users to input their own data.

You can actually see me entering it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90XEZ2aCC2Q&t=119s

It's monotonous and time consuming, but it's getting closer to done...a little.

  13. 3

Been working on NoCode Tube since the past few weeks and finally launched it today.

Had a lot of hiccups but it was finally resolved during the week.

You can check it out on Product Hunt

And do not hesitate to share your thoughts.

    1. 2

I've seen it on product hunt, it's second place! Upvoted!

      1. 1

Thank you so much for the support.

    2. 2

The website is not mobile friendly. Otherwise the product looks great.

      1. 1

Yes, I agree but after multiple delays in the last few weeks I did not want to push it further. Will be optimizing it in a few days.

Once you login, it is optimized for mobile.

  14. 3

    Hey @CCRRR2,
We're exposing an API to launch custom ML model training jobs programmatically. Since our engine doesn't require your data, we can integrate our simple spec into chat agents like autoGPT and chatGPT plugins.

    Find out more: https://remyx.ai/

    1. 2

Sounds interesting, I'll check it out.

  15. 2

Spent the weekend brainstorming ideas for a roadmap tool that I want to create, drafted some wireframes. Posted about it here: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/build-a-roadmap-tool-5766563366

  16. 2

I needed objective feedback on my website copy, so I asked copy.ai (which uses ChatGPT). And this is what "it" said.

CommChamp.com is a platform designed to help businesses and organizations build and nurture their online communities. It offers tools to automate engagement with members, maximize membership value, reduce churn, and collect real feedback. The platform is helpful for businesses and organizations that want to create genuine connections with their members and improve member retention and advocacy. It is particularly useful for those who want to provide personalized communication to their members and create a sense of community that fosters genuine connections between members.

I've been trying to nail my elevator pitch and struggling. Highly recommend giving copy.ai a try.

    1. 1

Cool landing page. What are your plans for distribution? How do you plan to target businesses who own or want to build online communities? I don't imagine this is a big market so what's your business model? Also, how did you add the animation that loops through value prop messages for your landing page?

      1. 1

Thanks, @ElijahGeorge. The market is where it makes sense to bring people together 1:1. e.g. Not sure how many online courses you've done, but for me, without the peer element, it's not as engaging or rewarding for participants.
Right now, I'm looking to run a pilot (either with a bunch of individuals or someone who has a community they'd like to nurture).
A typing text plugin for WP.

        1. 1

Got it. I've kind of benefited from both online courses as well as community experiences. There's definitely a place for both to thrive, especially in the tech space. I've been part of Dru Riley's Trends.vc community in the past. It may be worth reaching out to see if there's an opportunity for a pilot.

          1. 1

That sounds like a great idea. If you're up for a chat, I'd love to hear about your experience there.

            1. 1

By the way, I think I was referring to Trends.vc, not Trends.co. Just updated the comment.

  17. 2

Also working on SEO, ran my site through AHrefs and got a lot of good feedback.

  18. 2

I launched my localization startup, Rosetta, last week. I'm talking to a couple of potential users and making some changes. I'm hoping that I convert some into customers.

    http://rosetta.so

  19. 2

Playing around with a pet project to practice my full-stack dev skills: getbuddy.info. It's like a "clone" the AOL Instant Messenger "Buddy Info" feature (for my 90s people haha.)

Also, working on a pretty niche SaaS called "Dependify" - waitlist is at Dependify.co, we are going to drop our Beta in the next couple of weeks. It's a way to visualize and interact with task interdependencies. I posted a Loom of our very early POC/Prototype on Twitter @dependify_app.

Cheers! Looking forward to seeing what everyone else is working on!

  20. 2

Working on a new list of prospects to cold email on Monday to sign new brand partners for my shopping app that helps brands sell their excess inventory passing savings up to 70% off to consumers

    Creating content, experimenting with AI.

I generally stay use the weekends to dive into things that I've found interesting during the week

    1. 1

I've been using ChatGPT for blog content/twitter posts. Some of the longer form blog content feels a little robotic :) - any suggestions to modify the tone to make it more natural? Cheers!

      1. 1

        Plenty.

Paste a piece of copy you like and tell it to emulate that writing style.

I usually experiment with different writing styles and edit the best parts together.

Also, some simple prompts to make it sound more natural:

        • casual/conversational tone
        • write like a storyteller
        • use words people use in day to day conversations with their friends

Also, probably the most underrated hack:

Tell it to use sentences of varying length.

You have to play around with that prompt a little bit since it doesn’t always work right away but trust me, it makes the copy 100 times more natural. The key is to combine sentences of short length with sentences of medium and long length.

Also, use GPT-4 if you can. Makes a big difference.

        Hope that helps.

I’m currently trying to build the ultimate AI writer through clever prompt engineering but still experimenting. The only thing I can say is that there’s a lot more depth and possibilities than people realize.

      2. 1

        Hey @bredemoday have a look at copy.ai
I've found it super useful (and then maybe export to grammarly if you need?).

  22. 2

I’m trying to articulate my main pain point for Protective Metrics and I’ll also be writing a couple articles that I hope can help promote it in the long term. I’m also at the stage where I fail to make headway on most of my projects.

    1. 1

Sometimes is good to take a break.

  23. 2

Working on https://www.kupiks.com/, a tool to automate the parsing of emails, receipts, and invoices using AI.

    1. 1

      Good job! Web looks good.

  24. 2

    Just launched Orchid.so - https://www.orchid.so

Knowledge base builder using notion , looking for early adopters.

  25. 2

I need to work harder to launch the APP. The longest task is to ensure that the security features are completed as best as possible before publishing.

    1. 2

what security features are you trying to build?

      1. 1

i'm just adopting blockchain technology techniques, then im custom again and ensuring every scenario are safe for data communication..

  26. 2

I am struggling for a few days already in implementing in app payment for https://memoiri.app tough one to test

    1. 1

I recommend paddle.com. Really easy to get started.

      1. 1

I just finished and managed to get it working! Yay using php!

      2. 1

It feels like all those solutions like revenue cat etc. are kinda over engineering of a little app? where god knows if I even get one subscription

        1. 1

even stripe feels complicated these days to integrate 😅

          1. 1

I have managed to get it working in roughly 4 hours of testing and work, it has become a simple 80 line php script for server side validation, I don't have to rely on anything :D

    2. 1

      Which one you are implementing?

      1. 1

I am using flutter, I am stuck at receipt validation

        1. 1

I wish I could help you but I am noob for flutter.

  27. 2

Working on writing tomorrows newsletter content, in between spending time with the kids on holidays.

No a great deal getting done but it's enjoyable, regardless.

    1. 2

      Enjoy your time with kids!

Are you interested to showcase https://jakehower.com/ on crossgrowth.io from the early phase?

    2. 2

  33. 2

My AI news app just got approved recently: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/packer-smarter-news-with-ai/id6446317289

Got some hiccup with the AI being dumb dumb and does not understand the context of articles but it's working now. Much appreciate if you can try it out (it's totally free for now).

    1. 1

Looking good unfortunately I am an Android guy so can't really try it out 😁

  34. 2

Setting up a campaign in Google ads for emery.to and reply to posts in relevant subreddits.

Also going to draft a productivity test to promote our product.

    1. 1

Busy weekend! Keep up the good work!

  37. 2

Still building out the backend of www.motorworxmarket.com. My next stage is to send it to a developer who has never seen the app before, and smoke test it for its useability.

Although I am not a not a developer by trade, so making sure the data is correct is using up most of my weekend.

SEO is always high on my to-do list, care to share your strategy at all?

    1. 1

Just focusing now to build DA by writing guests posts on authoritative websites, once I build DA around 25 I'll start doing my own targeted keywords blogs and pages.

      1. 1

Do you mind if I ask, do you pay to blog post? if so, do the websites you are targeting need to have a minimum DA for you to post on?

        1. 1

No I don't pay, find specific websites in your niche market which allows free guests posts on their website. The higher DA the better but usually the ones with high DA will charge for guest posts, so somewhere around 20-30 are usually free to post with dofollow links.

  38. 2

Going to be working on the latest blogpost for kanuu.io and scheduling out some of tweets for the next week or so!

    1. 2

      Keep up the good work!

  39. 2

    Currently working on Autory.ai

The goal of it is to be able to chain modules together to build automation.

What are you doing for your SEO strategy?

    1. 2

Just focusing now on building DA with writing blogs on authoritative websites to get dofollow for my own web.

    2. 1

Hi @Thystler, from your landing page Autory.ai seems cool but I couldn't really put together what it does. I think a video demo or some kind of illustration showing a real example might be helpful for visitors to better understand the product.

      1. 2

I appreciate, your feedback I will change this!

  40. 1

I am working on building AI surveys. Currently we are live with basic online surveys (https://surveytrics.com), that can be created and shared as a part of market research, customer feedback, etc.

  41. 1

Im working on a client's service base website. It offers different channel letters and logo designing services in New York for the branding of any company.

  42. 1

Working on Agriquery, a b2b food listings site. It's currently an extremely basic MVP without a payment gateway. Aggregating the feedback I've received from the users to map out what v1.0 will entail.

  43. 1

Working on building a community around https://posttruth.substack.com/ which is where I write about AI, tech, and their influence on Internet culture. I'm an AI researcher, writing for people outside of the field as someone in it. Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think -- right now I've published:

    1. A deep dive into the psychology and AI literature behind automated personality prediction
    2. A look into the marketing of AI tools in the beauty industry
    3. A piece on the fundamental value add of social media, how platforms failed to deliver, and how I learned to use social media for meeting great people without feeling gross about it
  44. 1

My name is Mike. and I've been building a simplified real-user monitoring tool w/ a small team on the side as a personal project. We are both leaders on our day job teams, and have seen first-hand over and over how expensive datadog and similar tools can be. Aside from the price tag, they are simply difficult to use for onboarding engineers and we spent more time learning the tool than actually focusing on the real problems.

    ## Why I started doing this

After learning the ins and outs of datadog, I always wanted to take these and have pre-built dashboards that I could use across companies. I also dreaded that I had to take hours out of my workday to learn datadog, when I could be focused on the real problem.

    ## current functionality

    • bundle sizes (how are they changing over time/per release). Set budgets and alerts based off this. IN the future, we will release a github integration for PRs.

    • core web vitals dashboards for comparing last week vs. previous week, or comparing releases.

    • alerts (working on it, but it will be via slack)

    Almost done with http://remotescanner.io 🚀

It's a remote job scanner service where you can filter by your stack and get notified periodically! 🪃

    1. 2

nice, I signed up to test it out (not actually looking for a job) and thought it was super streamlined. But, I wish you had more filters, for things like preferred frontend framework.

      1. 1

Thank you for your kind message. If you have any suggestion for extra frontend frameworks, please let me know I can add them right away. 🙂

        1. 1

perhaps I missed it, but I couldn’t find where to filter by React, vue, angular, svelte. Not super critical, but a lot of engineers know only one framework well.

  47. 1

    I'm always trying be online

  48. 1

    TweetGPT!
We build a very simple web application with a friend of mine. Enter what you would like to tweet about, and ChatGPT will create an appropiate tweet based on some conditions.

Im working on trying to market my Twitter App before Twitter takes away my API key...
    Any tips for tweetwars? https://tweetwars.wtf

    1. 1

Why do you want to continue working on it if you think Twitter is going to take away your API key?

      1. 1

I finished and launched the product. The day after Twitter announced the new API tiers which are unaffordable. Im kind of unsure if I should try to advertise my product before the key gets invalidated in 2-3 weeks.

I’m addicted to TikTok but tired of burning hours watching mindless videos so I put together an app that pulls news videos from TikTok and sets a limit of 5 - 20 minutes before ending the playlist. It’s called newsflash.fyi

On Saturday, I have significantly improved search of items at https://awesomegoat.com

On Sunday, evening I plan to introduce RSS export for my users (as multiple people have requested it).

    1. 1

nice! did you implement your own algo or use a library for that?

      1. 1

        For the search, you mean?

I learned how to properly use fulltext search in postgresql as I don't want to babysit elasticsearch just yet. I found fulltext search in postgresql to be good enough for my needs, much better that naive use of "ILIKE %xyz%".

I used pg_search library to help me with getting it all up. But I think in the long run, I will get a rid of this dependency as I really use a small footprint of what the library can do.

One thing I had to figure out was a language detection. As I have users from various countries full text search should ideally work in each language slightly differently.

Another thing, I had to solve was the fact that I don't have text in the database, just snippets of websites, so I had to strip that out. To make the search more efficient.

Most of my work on search ultimately sits in a single file. That's a beauty of Rails' activesupport concerns.

I've made a Twitter observation tool. Any individual can gain insights about their products, brand, or interests.

With the capabilities of searching for anything, seeing tweet counts, most liked, most retweeted tweets, and finding the top influencers in the respective niche can be insightful.

The tool is completely free to use. This is the Link - https://emanuelenan.github.io/twitObservation.io/#/

This product looks great! I signed up for early access. Have you considered launching it on Product Hunt? The community there is known for providing helpful feedback. I also have a suggestion - instead of having two separate products, why not merge them into one? Since they are both related to WhatsApp, combining them into a single product with additional features would make marketing easier and give the impression of a more complete and robust product. Just a thought.

Expanding my coding tutorial for creating an AI chatbot service - https://docs.firestarterapp.com/tutorials/chatbot-1/

I am 3 pages in of probably about 10.

The catch (!) is it relies on Firestarter, but since that is free/open source it isn’t really a catch.

Working on learning about advertising services. I'm new to this, and my product is in the adult niche (a kink questionnaire!), so I have to learn about how to sell it without breaking advertising network's content guidelines.

    1. 1

Well that's a tricky one, try reaching out to customers through kink blogs, forums and platforms so you don't have to spend money. Considering that almost 50% of all internet traffic is porn related, there are plenty of potential customers around.

I'm currently visiting the states 🇺🇸 for pleasure, but live in Europe. I was wondering if there were any IndieHacker meetups in San Francisco, Las Vegas or Los Angeles that I could attend and meet some overseas hackers 😁

    Currently working on highlightra.com 😁

Hey highlightra looks good! I'll try it out. There is for sure some meetups around SF you just need to dig them out.

Yeah..this is what I have in mind for this week.

Would any of you guys be interested in it?

Need a way to screen capture and share a gif guide? But existing tools like Loom charge $8/month and feel like you're navigating a space shuttle?

I've got a solution: QuickGIF, a minimalistic Chrome extension for creating short, silent screen recordings in GIF format.

    Here's why you'll love it:

    1. Lightweight and user-friendly: Kiss those complex interfaces and unnecessary options goodbye. QuickGIF keeps it simple, so you can focus on the good stuff.

    2. GIF magic: No more bulky video files. QuickGIF serves up universally supported, compact animated GIFs for easy sharing and embedding.

    3. Minimalistic: Perfect for step-by-step guides or short demos.

    4. Share like a pro: QuickGIF's compact file size means faster uploads and hassle-free sharing via email, social media, or however you reach your peeps.

    5. Focused functionality: You won't be overwhelmed by extra features. QuickGIF's designed to create short, silent screen recordings in GIF format, and it does it well.

    6. Wallet-friendly: Generous free plan, and the paid plan maxes out at $5/month. A budget-conscious screen capture solution without compromising on power.

Thoughts? I'd love your feedback, suggestions, or even a virtual high five! ✋
