WordPress theme and plugin update tracking

Hi, all. I posted over in Beta Testing about WP Lookout, a new tool I recently launched for WordPress professionals who manage multiple sites for their clients but don't want to go all in on automatic theme and plugin updates.

If you find yourself in that boat, I'd be glad for you to try it out; hopefully you find it useful. In general, if you have any particular success stories or pain points to share around your own management of theme and plugin updates, I'm excited to hear them. Thank you.

    Hi Chris,

This is awesome! Signup and setup was easy and clear. I like the history of changes is there, not just alerts for new changes. Can see this being very helpful for sites that haven't updated their plugins/themes in a long time!

Hi ther, could you shortly describe what's the difference to tools like MainWP? Thanks!

      Thanks for your interest!

MainWP is one of the great multi-tool options out there for managing WordPress sites. They have a ton of features including managing automatic updates, backups, wp-admin customization and more. But they are primarily aimed at site managers who are okay having their WordPress sites auto-updated (and possibly break) without being aware of of the details of what's changing when new versions of plugins and themes are released.

WP Lookout is for WordPress professionals who manage or develop sites where the details of what's changing in an update matters. This might be because the sites have complex dependencies (e.g. custom functionality built on top of a plugin like ACF Pro), high visibility (a site that can't afford to go down in the middle of the night because of a plugin auto-update problem), or other reasons. If their practice is to "read the changelogs" and test updates in a staging environment before running them in production, WP Lookout helps to support that process as a best practice.
