Affiliates. To do or not to do?

I'm preparing my first eBook launch for Monday and I was thinking to also add affiliates after the launch period (a week or so) to hopefully boost up the sales.

At the same time, I've heard that some people had issues with affiliates like over-promoting and spamming which might hurt the brand image.

What do you think? Is it worth it or not to set up affiliates? What was your experience?

    IMHO worth it.

I'm always looking for affiliates because I find good affiliates generate lots of sales over long periods of time. Obviously you have to vet and make sure you're not attracting/inviting spammers. I don't get a lot of people asking to be affiliates, so I actively reach out to other developers / authors to ask if they would like to be an affiliate for Doka Image Editor.

With Gumroad it's also ridiculously easy to set up. :D

@dvassallo has done affiliates with his Gumroad stuff, maybe he can share some insights?

Yes, I think they're worth it. They bring about 7.5% of my sales. My vetting process is simply asking how they'll be promoting. To those who don't give me a convincing answer I tell them that for now I'm only creating affiliates with those who have their own audiences.
