What are some good resources on marketing to businesses?

Hey all,

I'm mainly an engineer and just put out order.ly/menus with some other talented folks. I have absolutely zero idea on how to approach marketing our product to other businesses. Does anyone have any good resources or know any good communities that I should take a look at?

I really appreciate any help, thanks!

Gabriel Weinberg's book from a few years ago called Traction might be a good place to start. It outlines a number of different strategies/channels for finding customers.

This early on it's really about talking to customers manually one at a time though, because it's not really marketing as much as confirming you built something your target customers wants to use. The only way to know that is through one-on-one conversations.

Think through your value proposition before you start reaching out. What is the problem you're solving and who has the problem? This product appears to solve a problem for consumers, but you're targeting restaurants as your customer.

I'm curious what the value proposition is to the restaurant? Looks like you're heading towards a Grubhub-like business, so it may be worth understanding what restaurants do and don't like about Grubhub. That's a good example of something to ask them directly when you're manually reaching out.

Good luck and feel free to post any follow up questions.

Thanks for the reply, I just put an order in the book and look forward to the read!

I'm also going to work on some marketing content so I can go direct to business this week. I think it's going to be a challenge to get 1 on 1 time with the business owners so I'm thinking of working on some really good marketing material I can hand out to the on site managers and a really quick pitch of what it is (as the food service industry is pretty fast paced and I know they have a lot to do.)

Essentially businesses currently pay for online PDF menus that are cumbersome to manage when changes need to be made, we've heard it can take weeks to get changes turned around. We do all the work of setting up and changing the menu content to make it as frictionless as possible for the customer. We are also striving to make the best user experience possible.

We have had a secondary product that more aligns with grubhub in progress for quite a while and plan to introduce that as a close integration with this product as well.
