I love that it is entirely author defined and they are not trying to add any algorithmic recommendation engines. A step that shows Substack is still looking to be writer-friendly.
Indie hackers with Substack newsletters should team up and recommend each others newsletters!
The recommendations coming from creators and not readers is something worth following. I wonder if this will help new writers trying to get discovered or benefit those with an existing network of writers. How does the initial writer discover me in the first place?
I certainly do. Look at YouTube. Their recommendations tab is ubiquitous at this point, and people can rely on it to suggest them other videos they may like.
Other companies have leveraged the recommendation concept too i.e Spotify, SoundCloud. I can't think of others, but over the next 5 years as AI improves we're going to continue to see Recommendations get better and better, and more relevant to the user.
Thanks for sharing this Darko!
