Firefox users can now use Chrome extensions

"Write once, deploy everywhere."

Firefox users can now import Chrome extensions. This is a feature that's still in its early stages but it seems like we're heading in a direction where you can write 1 extension and deploy it everywhere.

Why I think this is big: Although Firefox has lost some market share, it still has 176 million users. So if you do browser extensions (and I know a lot of IHers here do browser extensions), you're capturing a fairly sizable market.
This is great news if you do Chrome extensions

Nice - now let's do the same for Android and iOS Apps :D

I think you might still need to have your extension on the Firefox Add-On store:
"Instead of importing the Chrome extension directly, Firefox is installing the Firefox version of the extension from Mozilla's own extension store."

Certainly! I appreciate the input! Just a day ago, a Reddit user informed me that they were unable to find a Firefox extension for my product. Currently, I've developed a Chrome extension exclusively, but I'm considering expanding to Firefox in the future.

Firefox has historically used its own extension system based on XUL and XPCOM, while Chrome has used the Chrome Extension API. This meant that extensions built for one browser weren't directly compatible with the other.

Any one tested this? How's the performance on the imported extensions vs ones built for Firefox

Thanks! Someone on Reddit told me an hour ago that he was missing the Firefox extension for my product. I only have a Chrome extension so far.

    Ah, great!

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one using Firefox. 😂
