My side hustle Kody Tools hacker news experience

Yesterday, I shared my side hustle Kody Tools on Hacker News, and believe me the response was unexpected. Before I start telling that part, I think you must be having some questions about my side hustle and I think this is the perfect time to answer some of those.

What Kody Tools is all about?

Kody Tools is just a hub of tools or you can say a toolbox. Each and every tool is created by me over the span of 6 months.

Why did I start working on it?

As an individual, I am always in need of a few tools to simplify my day-to-day work, but I did not find the logic in jumping from one website to another since not a single website has all the tools in one place. Initially, I created around 10-15 tools for personal use. Then, every day an idea of a new tool started popping up in my mind and I started creating one after another till I ended up creating 300+ tools.

Later, I realized there is no point in creating so many tools if people don’t even know about the existence of Kody Tools. So I took a break and started sharing my project on social media and that’s how I ended up learning that we can also share our project on Hacker News.

What happened on Hacker News?

The response was beyond my expectation. I thought I will make a post and it will stay there for just a while, then it will be lost in the crowd. But I was shocked when I saw in analytics 1000+ real-time visitors and not only that they all gave positive feedback and appreciated the amount of time I spent on the project. My project is still in the top 3 with 130+ points.

What did I learn from that?

Stay focused and must share your project on social media to get feedback. If you share something that you have created with like-minded people they will definitely appreciate it and give you positive feedback.

What are my future plans for Kody Tools?

Create more tools as simple as that and update the existing ones with more features. Planning to hit around 1000+ tools by the end of this year. Let's see how it goes!

How can you get in touch with me?

I am now part of the build-in public movement and sharing every tiny update of my project on Twitter. So if you want to stay up to date, feel free to get in touch on Twitter -@kodyberns

That’s all for today folks, have a nice day!
