Eurotripr - If NomadList and Indie Hackers had a baby

Hi I'm Craig and I am building Eurotripr (again) after a bit of a break.

You can see my progress here: https://eurotripr.com

Eurotripr is a tool to inspire and help people plan trips to Europe, currently focused on first-time travelers.

The design is HEAVILY borrowed from NomadList as I love the way Pieter presents his own data. And since I already have that laid out, I don't want to go back to the drawing board again before I see if this is even something I can get users for. (just wanted to call out the elephant in the room in case it is one)

One of the big things I need to add are my itineraries. Currently this live version does not have itineraries and that, in my opinion, is a BIG draw for anyone who would want to use the site. These are my current priority and waht I am working on now.

I am also in the process of adding more cities and things to do/attractions, plus the content (costs and more - see a Country page for an idea) for each.

REQUESTED FEEDBACK

  1. Beyond this specific design/layout feedback and the missing itineraries/content, do you think this would be a tool someone wishing to travel to Europe would use to plan their trip?

  2. If users were given the opportunity to become members, and members had the following features, would it be compelling enough to pay for:

  • not see ads
  • build custom itineraries for their own trips
  • Participate in a forum for questions & answers about trips
  • have access to a private discord channel to discuss travels with other Eurotriprs
  • create meetups while in Europe to meet other members in real life

Some of these member features would only obviously valuable if there are enough actual members. I get that.

If you have any additional feedback - positive or negative - I would love it.

As I continue to build this out, any feedback will be extremely helpful.

Thank you so much!

If this is about traveling in Europe, why repeat the word "Europe" under every destination as each destination is in Europe?

The destination listing needs a search, sort and filtering features. Right now, it's too tedious to use.

Also, the reddish head icon on some of the countries in the front page looks awkward and creepy. I have no idea what that icon is trying to tell me, but please consider getting a better icon.

An interesting take, with better UX and a lot of data, I could see value in this.

Hey, thanks @jv16 for the feedback! I really appreciate it.

You've actually hit a couple items that are on my immediate TODO: Search, Sort, Filter functionality. Right now I am busy entering location data and categorizing locations so that filtering and sorting and search will be a bit cleaner to use than just finding key words or sorting by name. I'm adding costs, scores, who a place is "best" suited for, and much much more. Thanks for pointing out that it is definitely needed.

Re: Why have "europe" on all the countries when it is a Euro-centric site: I originally had the plan of using this as a first-step into global travel site, so the there would be other countries on other continents and it would make more sense, but this is a huge task just focusing on Europe, so I will probably scrap that idea, and remove 'Europe' at some point.

Re: The PINK icon above countries and cities is a "person with mask" icon that i used as a clickable button to display COVID info as a pop-up. I started building this (the most recent time) during COVID and had hoped to launch a MVP when Europe opened up for tourism so the Covid details were relevant and seemed useful then. Now not so much - probably. At some point I am going to have these toggelable (is that a word?) in my Admin so i can show them if COVID (or other serious concern) becomes a concern again. However to you point, maybe I need a clearer , less 'disturbing' icon to get that point across.

Again thank you so much for taking the time to view the site. It is a huge work in progress but I really am thankful for your feedback!
