Have you tried creating a DAO?

We're currently working on a project to help people start DAOs.

We're having trouble getting in touch with people who have thought about creating a DAO or actually tried to do it.

We're self-funded for now and have an alpha coming out in a few weeks -- we initially started building this for ourselves, but would we'd want to make this the most accessible platform to launch a DAO.

If you're someone who tried to create a DAO, don't hesitate to leave a comment!.

(PS if you want to be part of the alpha just leave a comment here)

Hi guys. Yes, we have tried to create a DAO using a few platforms out there. One of the projects that we are working on had a lot of interest from private investors, but there was a lot of them and we have decided to go with a DAO to provide a private sale. Few projects out there for creating it, but lack a lot of options when it comes to investor participation. Those are aim to have such features are still in development. The ones that are somewhat suitable, are built without investor in mind, but rather a DAO participant with shared treasury. I would love to see what you are building.

Can you explain what a DAO is? I am familiar with it - but not super familiar, like I've heard in the news how they operate more or less and what the objective is, but maybe there's a lot more that you could share with us!

      Hey orlie,

Just curious if you found this explanation helpful? I'd be happy to give it another shot if it's still opaque for you :)

Can you tell me a little bit more about how "they decide" together what to work or some more examples.

I.e. let's assume I am making a DAO to make memes together.
What exactly does the DAO do?
Decide what kind of meme make?
Decide who made the best memes?
        Some examples would help

Great questions. I'll give you a very real example

What exactly does the DAO do?

Meme DAO is a real DAO they have a community that:

          • create memes
          • complete "bounties"(tasks) for bigger firms to be paid for certain "meme campaigns" (ad campaigns) for money (in form of crypto)
          • they also have a Twitter account that is handled by members of the dao
          • contacts companies to work on further meme campaigns

In this case, no one decides if something is the best or not. It's very close to a classical marketing agency except that the way that value gets created is more bottom-up than top-down.

DAOs often have one or more of the following properties:

          • compensation of individuals is done in cryptocurrency
          • treasury is located on a blockchain
          • members are anon(ymous)
          • there are ways to vote on how to use the organization's treasury (referred to as governance)
          • membership of the DAO is done through some form of cryptocurrency
          • membership of the DAO is done through discord roles

Maybe have a look and check how this DAO operates:

Now there are a couple of caveats to what I've explained here but I won't go into more detail.

thanks, lots to learn for me clearly!

      Hey 👋

Basically, a DAO is multiple people working together that have a common goal. These people often have a treasury that is hosted on a blockchain.

Contrary to a classical treasury this treasury is:

      • international by default -> so it's extra easy for people on the internet who are potentially in different countries to manage it together
      • easy to create -> takes less than 30 seconds

      ## Extra Infos

      e.g. goals of DAOs:

      • make memes together!
      • create a new product

Hey, primer I apologize for leaving your previous message unanswered.

I obviously should've explained what a DAO is here on indie hacker and should definitely not use jargon.

But let's say you were making a website that solves a problem for doctors or lawyers would you use the jargon of the industry?

I tried to explain it in an answer to a comment below. Did you find it helpful?

Yeah thats right I was actually concurring with you that point.

So to reclarify I think you’re completely right
