After failing at everything I tried I finally made it. And yes. You were right.

You all were right.

After trying for years to create a SaaS and failing again and again... I thought I owed you an update.

I used to write here about all my failures, and many of my posts became popular.

There was common advice from those posts: "You are a great writer".

But I didn't know what to do with that... I wanted to create software and make 20K/month. That was my primary skill at the time... Coding. So. Software.

As all of you already know, making it means nothing. I made many products in those years. Made 0.

And it was quite depressing. You work hard. Very hard. Very very hard.

But nobody cares how hard you work, just how can you help them make more money or save money, or time or...

Working hard is not making any of those things happen.

So, I didn't make money.

But... I was convinced that it was impossible to make money as a copywriter.

I was wrong.

In 2022 I made $60.000.

Similar to my old job in London as a programmer.

In 2023 I made $120.000.

In 2024 it looks like I am going to double again. But who cares really? I am free. And I am enjoying what I do. And I do whatever I want.

The weird part is that I made all this money... writing.

Writing.

Unbelievable.

And If you are like me a couple of years ago... keep pushing. All I learned from those failures made me a valuable person for many businesses.

Don't settle. If you feel you have something to offer, you will find it as I did.

Thank you to this community for the support in my dark times.

I haven't even started building anything, but this story inspires me to keep shipping. Are you working as a freelancer, or did you find a platform for copywriters?

    1. 1

I cold contacted my current clients! You can aspire for higher rates by doing that.

That's so good to hear, happy for you!

One note, I always find it a bit dangerous to tell people if you keep trying you will succeed. I get the idea, but I see it as if you quit you will "fail" 100% sure. That chance reduces when you keep trying, but it wil never be 100% chance of succeeding. It might give less false hope to some people :)

Anyhow, amazing story, happy that it worked out with writing (especially in these times!) , all respect and congrats!

When you know you have something to offer, you know. Then, you keep pushing.

People who are faking it because they want to make money to look successful are empty, and should not stop.

But I only care about the first group.

Wow, it's interesting that you earn more money from writing, not your main skill. I'm also a developer and still find it hard to earn money from my products :). Thank you for your post, it means a lot!

Congrats on the freedom! As someone still trapped in the first half of that story, this is a timely anecdote.

      Thanks! Keep pushing then!

    Congrats on your success.

Are you worried about AI/LLMs becoming more human-like and threatening your livelihood?

    1. 1

Thanks! Not really, a copywriter is not about writing is about thinking about what to write. I am still better than AI doing that!

  7. 1

Very inspiring!! Aren't you worried about the AI rising though?

    1. 1

thanks! A copywriter is not about writing is about thinking about what to write. I am still better than AI.. hehe

    Congratulations!

How are you monetizing your writing?

    1. 1

thanks! I started as a freelancer copywriter and asked for a fee and a % of the sales.

But now I have moved to be partners with my clients, many want me to be part of their companies. It's pretty wild.

Your story inspires and affirms that by pushing past your own doubts, you've found success through persistence and openness to new opportunities, leading to personal and financial growth.

Glad to read this, hope anyone in my old situation keeps trying.

Sounds good - if you like it ;) do you help yourself with AI tools in writing?

    1. 2

I use AI for transcripts of my interviews, but to write... not really. I tried... but is not helping me at this stage.

  12. 1

Congrats! Sounds like you are very happy.
What changed your mind? Why did you try writing for money?

    1. 1

      I am!

There's a famous copywriter in Spain that makes a lot of money and he says that is possible to make money as a copywriter in Spain. I thought that was not possible.

So I tried. And It worked.

Inspiring story! What kind of copywriting do you specialise in?

Thanks! I write sales pages and email funnels for content creators who sell their info products.
