Airtable has just announced Apps and Marketplace 🙀

I've just read the announcement of Airtable Platform.

This looks like a huge opportunity for developers to jump on a new platform early.

What do you think? Is this the next app store worth catering for?

I spent a lot of time reading through IH interviews and tried to identify the acquisition channels that worked repeatedly for founders (btw, see my profile bio link for the summary). I was (not) surprised that "platforms" were in the top 3 of my list.

Shopify App Store, Slack App Store, the Chrome Extension store, even smaller ones like the Pipedrive store (see the newest IH interview, a whole app making $3k/mo by being on the Pipedrive store.) So I think this is big. I think there will be hundreds of companies making decent 3-4-5-figures MRR after 6 months.

Exactly! These platforms/marketplaces are a perfect place to start as an indie hacker. You get a distribution channel without worrying about marketing. You probably won't build a huge businesses based on it, but if all you need is a few $K per month, then it's definitely worth tapping into.

By the way, I've created a group for Airtable enhusiasts.

Notion has its own group here on IH so why not Aritable 😄

9 more members needed to launch the group.

Yay! The Airtable group got enough members to make it public. 🥳

Super cool announcement! Is there any information on (future?) paid apps?

As an early adopting developer I’d love to explore what kind of app I’d build for the community provided its access can be sold on a recurring basis

Any info on this is appreciated!

No specific information yet. There is a discussion about it going on in this thread: https://community.airtable.com/t/ama-apps-marketplace-edition/33475

I'm not really an Airtable user, but that might change now.

I also saw this, which made me laugh. / @nayamoss

      Wow! What a joy! 😍

Do they have a paid marketplace? If a 3rd party build the apps, is there any way to monetize?

a lot of similar no code tools have apps and marketplaces, just named differently.. some refer to them as integrations, plugins, etc.
