AMA: I built Flowbite, a component library downloaded over 1.5 million times on NPM

I am the creator of Flowbite (https://flowbite.com), one of the most popular component libraries based on Tailwind CSS with over 1.5 million downloads on NPM and over 400k monthly unique users.

Ask me anything!

Hi I'm one of flowbite's user. This is a great library thanks for making this. Actually, I am using flowbite-react and it seems the library behind the core flowbite. When do you plan to catch up for flowbite-react?

Hey @herryg91! Thanks for being one of our community members.

Flowbite React will always be a little bit behind in terms of components because we always launch the first components on the main library - that being said in time all of the components and features of the main library will be available for React, Vue, and Svelte.

I'm curious how did you come up with the idea to build such a library and how was the beginning: did you get instantly attention and traffic to the library or what did you do to achieve that? How much time did it take you to reach your goals?

It was a natural step to build a component library on top of Tailwind CSS. We used custom JavaScript built by us to power interactivity (navbars, modals) and the utility classes from Tailwind CSS to build the components based on our custom Figma design system.

We didn't instantly get traffic other than our initial Product Hunt launch - we use a combination of many marketing efforts including content marketing, social media marketing, and launches on Product Hunt.

We are also very active on GitHub.
