Is gumroad a good place to sell art prints and paintings?

Hello! My name is Heli and I am an artist. I have shop on Gumroad where I sell art prints and paintings and digital downloads.

I have made $34 sell till now. I had a shop on Etsy but I don’t want to pay fees just to list my art. So I have closed it and opened new shop on Gumroad.

Do you think Gumroad is a good place for art prints and paintings?

Hello Heli! It's great that you've taken the initiative to open a shop on Gumroad, especially considering your concern about listing fees on Etsy. Gumroad is known for its user-friendly interface and lower fee structure, which can be beneficial for artists like you. It's particularly good for digital downloads, but it can also work well for physical art prints and paintings, especially if you leverage its marketing tools effectively. However, the key to success on any platform, including Gumroad, is active promotion and marketing of your shop. Best of luck with your artistic endeavors!

Very cool thank you for sharing. How has your experience been thus far? I sell fine art photography (mostly at art fairs in Colorado) but would love to branch out.

I think that Gumroad is big enough for such a shop. It is important to place the sop in a place people will see it often, so everybody will be attracted to come in. moreover, there's a tendency of artistic people living in the big cities, in purpose to see more, to meet new people for inspiration, and of course to make a bigger profit of their creations. And that works in both ways. I live in a rural area, but I like art; all my walls are hung with modern artists' works. It is too expensive to buy a masterpiece by famous artists, so I prefer printing and framing it. To get this service, I still need to go to the city.

This is a great place to sell your designs online. Whatever you create – graphics, fonts, photos, and even 3D printing materials – post it on Gumroad, and five million users will see the work. You set the prices yourself and get 70 percent of each sale. The sale of content on Gumroad in 2021 has noticeable disadvantages. The most significant of them are: a certain percentage of funds from each sale will be debited from you (by default, 5% + 30 cents, the rest depends on the settings and the type of account), money withdrawal is possible only with frequent sales exceeding at least $ 10. I sell my paintings there by numbers from https://paintingbynumbersshop.com/collections/paint-by-numbers-for-kids and I have a lot of customers.

It is mostly organic. I have the shop link on my instagram profile and website.

Congrats on your sales. Started up with Gumroad today.
IMO we need to run separate campaigns targeting the users to our stores. Planning to run a fb campaign soon. Will post the results.

Etsy is a great spot for this medium.

I haven't tried with Gumroad, but I've had a great experience with Shopify for my wife's art prints. I'd be curious how the costs, shipping, and store customization compare. My guess is Shopify might be a bit better for most shops since it's geared towards physical products.

Shopify is paid tool like Etsy, right?

Yeah, there are different pricing tiers ranging from $9, $30, and up. There's also standard card processing fees (2.9% + 30¢ USD).

You get discounts on shipping which is really nice though.

Okay. Thanks for sharing. But $9 is equals to around 85 INR. At this stage I don’t want to pay more money.
