If yes, how's it going, is it worth it?

From my perspective, at first, I was 100% into build in public, ultra-hyped from following successful Founders on Twitter making & sharing their story with that great 1k revenue a month charts, etc.

When they started making bigger money, they stopped sharing their journey, not sure why but some talked about reasons like getting hated/roasted for making so much money, and appearing multiple copy-cats as they saw your niche is a great place to run a business, etc.

Now I am building my newest side-project StartupUtils in semi public. I talk about it openly, but not share everything from top to bottom.

Also it's discouraging to see people making 10-100k a month, and me getting 0 traffic from the launch, 0 sales, etc. Also getting 0 traffic due to no Twitter followings, no Premium Twitter for algo boost.

I was thinking that building in public will be exactly what I need. The funny way of doing marketing, but I quickly realized that my products doesn’t have the audience I targeted.

I still talk about my products, issues I faced, but in a way that I put my product in front of customers. I do this on fb groups where they hang out and my LinkedIn profile.

    It reaaallly depends.

Over the past year I've seen many folks that do it thinking it's some sort of marketing "silver bullet" but doing it wrong.

That has lead to the trend of indies building a following to sell to other indies.

I have a friend that doesn't use it because of the nature of the work he does.

It's worth sharing your journey as it provides ongoing exposure to your company and what you are doing. However, no one is giving away all their secrets. So building in public comes with an obvious filter. But if you are new and want to build a community around your business, 100% for it.

I think it is worth it for sure! You can get all the people hyped up for weeks/months and they will be far more likely to try out your product when they feel like they have been there with you since day 1.
