How you see your product is not how they see it.

Something I learned in the last couple of months. How I see my product is not how my customers will also see.

Definitely not in terms of use case. People use products to solve their problems as per their needs, not you think it is supposed to.

In Psychology, there's a phenomenon around this called The Rashomon Effect.

The situation in which an event is given contradictory interpretations by the individuals involved.

Also, a storytelling method in cinema used to provide different perspectives & POVs of the SAME scene!

Example:- Look at this image of blind men and an elephant. It clearly explains how they all are interpreting it.

Questions is, would you enforce your customers to use how YOU want them to OR go with how customers are adapting it?

If you liked learning about Rashomon effect, I think you would love reading The Psych Newsletter.

Cheers!

It boils down to how compelling your story telling is.

In the end, your vision is all about "How do you want your users to be in the world you are designing".

In the reality, many founders pick a path based on how customers adapt to it but over the time they enforce the customers to use how YOU want them to use it.

It is all about numbers game.

This is a common theme n observations between Bootstrapped companies & VC funded companies.

Sure, it is also very similar to the theme of solution oriented vs problem oriented. Many new founders begin with the solution in mind and what THEY want their product to have.

Eventually, the mindset shifts to where users and their usage is leaning towards.
