Instagram is testing a new subscription feature with 10 US creators. This means that these selected creators will be able to offer their followers exclusive content, merchandise, and other perks in exchange for a monthly fee.
It’s still unclear how much it will cost or what kind of content it will provide. But there are plans to expand it globally if it proves successful.
Creators are excited about this new opportunity as it could help them generate more income, but some worry that this will create an unfair playing field for those who don’t have access to the feature.
This is not the first time Instagram offers its users exclusive content - back in 2016, they launched “IGTV” which allows users to watch longer videos uploaded by their favorite influencers and celebrities on their mobile devices - but this is the first time they are offering a paid feature.
