How can you generate organic traffic with custom GPTs!

Hi everyone,

I'll be sharing with you, in the most concise and clear manner possible, how we managed to generate organic traffic through custom GPTs.

Beginning

Following OpenAI's announcement of the custom GPT feature, like many others, we pondered over how we could utilize this to our advantage :) And we realized that this could be a viable channel to drive traffic to our newly launched AI advertising tool, Adsby.

Side Note: Adsby is a tool that, thanks to its ai features, allows users to easily set up Google Search Ads like a digital marketing expert, while its optimization capabilities prevent the wastage of ad budgets.

Execution

In just two days, we prepared GPTs designed to address the daily marketing challenges of users. Our aim was to connect with individuals who could benefit from Adsby's offerings. To streamline this initiative, we grouped these GPTs under the banner of Marketing GPTs. While our focus was on rapid development, we spared no effort in customizing each GPT to excel in its specific domain, ensuring that the results would be genuinely beneficial for users.

Marketing GPTs

After creating the Marketing GPTs, we didn't waste time and launched on Product Hunt, where we became the third most popular product of the day. This not only drove traffic to the GPTs but also to Adsby.

Secret Sauce

The real question was: How could we capture the attention of people using the GPTs?

Each GPT had a link to Adsby as the maker on top. This was nice but not sufficient for us.

So, we added a snippet at the end of the conversation—after the user received the result they wanted from each GPT. Note: we didn't add overly pushy features that would disrupt the user's GPT experience. In other words, users could really use each GPT for their intended purposes without any disruption to their main flow.

Some Statistics

Naturally, the usage numbers for each GPT varied, and I'm sharing these numbers below. (This also provided us with insights into which tasks users search for more on a daily basis)

  • Ad Copy Generator: 1000+
  • Hashtag Generator: 1000+
  • Keyword Generator: 400+
  • Caption Generator: 200+
  • Ecommerce Store Keyword Generator: 100+
  • Email Copy Generator: 70+
  • Synonym Keyword Generator: 30+

Results

So, what was the impact on our organic traffic?

It didn't generate traffic in the hundreds of thousands—at least not yet :) But even so, the results we achieved were quite promising.

Since the launch of Adsby (20 Feb), GPTs have ranked 7th among our sources of organic traffic.

Looking at the usage numbers of the GPTs, they brought in organic users to the site with a conversion of just over %6. (I say approximately because OpenAI doesn't share the exact usage numbers of the GPTs)

While the traffic here wasn't very high, what surprised us was this: among the sources of organic traffic to Adsby, GPTs were the top 3 in terms of conversion rate. (The metric for conversion being the initiation of a free trial)

In conclusion, these GPTs, which did not take a significant amount of our time to produce, have provided us with traffic, users, and insights.

P.S. We're open to ideas for new GPTs, please send your suggestions. 🙂

    Hey Cem,

Your strategy for generating organic traffic through custom GPTs is smart. Great to hear about the launch of Adsby and the success of your marketing GPTs. This innovative approach shows how we can make a difference in the field of digital marketing.

Innovation is key for Shopify apps to gain a competitive edge.

  3. 2

It's impressive how you've leveraged custom GPTs to drive traffic.

I'm curious, though, about the conversion rate. You mentioned that GPTs were the top 3 sources in terms of conversion rate. Could you share more about the other sources and how they compare?

    1. 1

      Hi Emre,

I used the metric of starting a free trial to measure the conversion rate. When comparing the traffic from this channel with other organic sources (like blogs, newsletters), it ranks as the third highest in terms of conversion rate.

  4. 2

    Really smart, great work!

It's a good marketing idea. But how long will Product Hunt allow products like "investor contact sheet" or "guide for...." and GPT models with simple prompts to compete with products that took people months to develop)?

    1. 3

You raise a valid point! Ultimately, the Product Hunt community does decide what they find valuable. Sometimes, that's a simple tool that solves a niche pain point, other times it's a complex project that took years. While the scale and development time matter, the key is: does it genuinely help someone? That's what drives long-term success.

    How's the backend looks like?

    1. 1

Sorry, could you specify what aspect of the backend you're referring to?

  7. 1

Good share, but... How do you deal with the repetitiveness of gpt answers?

    1. 1

      Hi Marius,

This snippet does not appear after every request; it only shows up following the completion of a specific task. I've tried to design it so that it doesn’t repeat until the user has achieved the desired outcome from GPT. Thus, the goal is to prevent it from becoming repetitive until the necessary result is obtained.

  8. 1

That's a good marketing idea but it can't be replicated for apps like shopify apps

    1. 1

Yes, it will indeed be more challenging for Shopify apps, but I think it's worth a try.
