How I successfully grew Metana to $104K in revenue in just under 3 months

Here’s the story of how I successfully grew Metana.io (Web3 Bootcamp) to $100K in revenue in just under three months back in 2022, right from the start of the company.

Here's what I did:

Set up Alerts:

We used tools like F6bot, Notifier.so (now we use Syften.com) to get alerts on industry-related and competitor terms like "Learn Web3" or "Learn Blockchain".

Daily Replies

Every day, I responded to over 100 Reddit threads, Facebook posts, and Twitter threads related to our industry.

For instance, if someone asked about a good Web3 bootcamp, I'd recommend Metana.io with a friendly tone.

Overcame Challenges:

Reddit was tough; they kept banning my accounts. So, I shifted to Twitter, Facebook, & Quora using the same strategy.

This helped us gain our first students, hitting $100K in revenue within 3 months.

Here’s what you need:

  • Set up Syften and send mentions to Google Sheet or Airtable using Zapier or their RSS feed.

  • Dedicate 2 hours daily to responding to these mentions. Use separate accounts without mixing them up!

Things to watch out for:

  • Be as helpful as possible and understand Reddit dynamics.

  • Reddit might ban your account unexpectedly if you've been using it extensively. Use multiple accounts in stealth mode to avoid this.

  • People might notice if you only promote your brand. Engage with other posts and share unrelated content.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions! Happy growing.

This sounds very effective. I'm curious to learn what you mean by "Use separate accounts without mixing them up!"

Are you using "mock-up" profiles to answer questions instead of your genuine identity? I don't follow

  2. 1

That's incredible , did you leverage any paid advertising or was this all organic?

  3. 1

Haha, this is great. It reminds me of something that Alex Hormozi said... "Do 100 reach outs every day, for 8 weeks straight, and it's inevitable you'll have customer"

  4. 1

What is the reason you are using paid services over F6bot(free) ?

  5. 1

Why did reddit ban your accounts? And how was Quora working better for you?

Shilling is not okay on Reddit. subs ban you for this reason. If you go comment unnaturally, Reddit bans your account. So use different Chrome profiles for each account.

However, I must say, I used to do this strategy a bit wildly when I was starting up. But now we comment genuinely & try to be helpful as much as possible. And I openly identify as the founder and help. This is working well for us now.

Quora used to work, but now the comments we did back in the day on Reddit have ranked on Google, etc and it's giving us a major push.

Nicely said, even right now I am building tools to assist on social media marketing. The tool will help you analyze multiple competitors' social media everyday giving you insights for what content is working for them and what is not working.

It is great if you are doing business branding or personal branding on social media.

I would love you guys to check it out at socialtrendanalysis.com

It may be a bit off topic, but I just don't understand the logic behind Reddit. I was writing a tutorial post on how to convert an image into a 3D relief for 3D printing or CNC purposes. The post was in a laser engraving subreddit, and I was hoping to get some feedback on the conversion app I developed. The main theme of the post is how the app was developed and what challenges there are in solving the conversion problem. These are crucial problems, and the discussion would benefit the entire community. Then, the post was removed shortly after, due to accusations of me trying to promote the product. I was perplexed; there is no product—the app is half-baked, barely running, and free. The main point of the post was not to promote the app either. Meanwhile, there are several other posts in the same subreddit clearly showing product videos that are solely intended to promote a product. Such posts, from the same group of people, have existed for months without being removed. I just don't understand the logic of the moderators and the reason why they exist. On the other hand, there is no significant way to prevent misconduct from moderators when this happens. Reddit simply does not support this, and reporting is only meaningful if the moderator has done something seriously wrong. I'm not an active Reddit user, but their way of relying on moderators to manage a subreddit seems destined to fail, in my view. Many subreddits are nothing but personal jungles for moderators that the users have to please.

Very likely the mods of the subreddit have their own commercial interest.

I also got banned from a sub, which is really important to me by breaking their rule number 1. stupidly. I asked for excuse, as I didn't now the rules when I wrote the comment. But instead the deleted every trace of the "incident". I understand why. They behaved like little bullies, called me names and I tried to defend what I stated.

Sometimes they are just power tripping idiots. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ask them, but you might never know what was the reason.

    2. 1

Can't you message the mods to clarify?

This is awesome, thanks for sharing! Currently dedicating an hour a day to this but it's super inefficient since I'm looking through everything manually. I had no idea there might be a tool like Syften out there!

Harsha, that's some serious growth - hats off to you! 🎩 Digging the dedication to daily engagement. Your tip about mixing up content to keep things cool with Reddit is gold. Got me thinking about how I connect with my own users at AB-TASK, where we're tackling team chat chaos. Keen to hear if you've got any tricks for keeping all your interactions genuine while you scale? Cheers for sharing your journey!

    Reddit is ruthless!

Use multiple accounts in stealth mode to avoid this.

This is certainly against the rules 😬 At Appwrite we've given up trying to promote on Reddit 😅

    This is huge. Congratulations

    Love your journey!

    This is an interesting strategy

It's a fascinating success story! Your strategy is really impressive. Your ingenuity and perseverance have brought considerable income in a short time.

Love the tactical-ness of that Google sheets part. I've heard of f5bot, but not the others. Sounds like a great approach. - One question, how do you find and adjust your filters/keywords? (Would love an example?)

So kind of you to share your experience Harsha!

I just want to call out how important it is to reach out and engage in a helpful manner with your potential customers.

As you point out, excessive self-promotion can backfire. A long-term approach focuses on providing value in those engagements, not just trying to get people back to your site.

Impressive growth, Harsha! Your approach to leveraging alerts and daily engagement on social platforms for customer acquisition is commendable. Thanks for sharing the actionable strategies and insights. 🚀
