Indie Hackers, what keyboard do you suggest?

Hi Indiehackers!

I am trying to decide on what type of keyboard I should get.

Should it be:

  • Mechanical?
  • Mesh?
  • Tenkeyless?
  • Wired? Wireless

I am using a Windows laptop right now with a laptop stand so I would prefer to use a wireless external keyboard.

I would love to hear what you think.

I advise you to buy a keyboard from Logitech. Some gamer keyboards have their software where you can set the backlighting, write macros for the keys, and configure the game combinations. You have to perform these manipulations manually with other models, using separate keys or [Fn] combinations. It is more convenient to customize your Logitech keyboard using a separate application. Still, if the manufacturer does not offer any software for your device, it is not a problem - you can do it even with [Fn]. However, I advise looking at advanced gadgets with separate configuration software. You can't buy this kind of keyboard everywhere, but it's easy to order through https://kerneltips.com/best-premium-keyboards-for-linux-on-amazon. My friend always orders there, and he recently gave me a new Logitech keyboard model.

A few days ago I finally gave into buying a decent keyboard for my home office. I got the Logitech MX keyboard and MX master 3 mouse. And I have to say, it is WONDERFUL! I hightly recommend. They are a bit pricing, I think I spend like $250 on both of them. But they are quality and loads of people have been using them for years with no issues.

I even got the cheaper model of the keyboard (it doesn't have the extra selector know thing on it) and I am very happy with it

Ohh and they are wireless and rechargable, but you can also just connect the cable to them and make them wired. They are designed to operate as both.

        Great advice - Thanks!

I'm using a wired TKL mechanical with Cherry Browns and while it's probably one of the worst mechanical ones it's one of the best keyboards I've ever used. And I used lots in 30 years.

I've modded it a bit (layered a bit of foam inside the case to dampen the sounds), and I place it on another layer of foamy material, so the sounds are really good, and the feeling of pressing the buttons is uncomparable to any non-mechanical keyboards.

In other words, I bet you'll immensely enjoy any mechanical keyboard you're gonna use.

      Thanks for your advice!
