Google's AMP project has been around for a while and has been gaining a lot of traction lately and for good reasons.

AMP is an open-source framework that allows developers to create fast, smooth, and responsive mobile-friendly web pages.

AMP means Accelerated Mobile Pages. The name itself conveys a lot. It was originally created by Google as a competitor to Facebook Instant Articles and Apple News.
