Hey all,
After a lot of pain working with dev agencies and freelancers, we're looking at bringing a competent developer into our business at Converge as a Co-Founder.
At the moment the business is generating a minimum income, so it would be work in return for a percentage ownership of the business rather than a hefty pay packet (although that's where we want to be soon).
Rather than discuss the entire thing here, I'm just putting out feelers to see if anyone would be interested in a conversation.
Converge is a content promotion tool - converge.today
As we've not had any experience doing this before, any advice on how deals and partnerships are structured would be greatly appreciated. As would any advice on finding the best co-founder.
Thanks!
Hi James, not sure if you are still looking but I have just left the saas I co founded over 15 years ago so looking for exciting new opportunities.
Hey Sam,
Happy to chat! Let me know the best email to get you on.
Best,
James
Hi, its sam(AT)aideasfactory .io is the best email.
Sorry for the poor formatting of the email address!
Thanks Sam
Hey Sam,
Thanks - email went out this morning. Just in case it lands in a junk or spam folder.
Cheers
James
Are you really sure you just wanna split a part of profits with someone you meet on a forum...
Well that's an over simplification of what we're looking to do. There'll be a lot of due diligence and this process will take time. I imagine it will be a difficult process to find the right person, but these forums are full of ambitious and talented people that I think could bring value to the company. It's my job to find the right person.
Hey james.
I'm an engineer.
We can discuss further on this.

Hey James, I'm a developer myself but I understand the struggle. When I need to offload some work it's difficult to find a decent developer to take it on.
First off, start with listing your tech stack. I was interested, but after some digging on your site it looks like you might be using AngularJS? (I'm a ReactJS dev). Everyone has their own skill set. I would be weary of a developer who says yes to a project even if they don't know the techniology you're using. Sure, most programing languages are similar, but having someone who's familiar with your stack would be much better.
I would also find out how much time per week the developer can dedicate so you can properly plan your weekly achievements.
Developers usually create designs themselves for their own projects, so if you don't have a dedicated designer have a look at their past work and see if you like their style.
If you aren't paying them from the outset it would be difficult to let them go if they are not the right fit once they have started working on your project already. Which is why finding out their style and abilities is so important upfront.
If the developer finds the niche and project both exciting and positively challenging, they would likely be interested in a long term partnership for a share in the business profits once they ramp up. On projects I'm not sure about I might consider taking a small sum upfront to secure my time, and then work in a partnership capacity as the business grows.
This is great feedback, thank you very much for sharing. I'll take all this on board when chatting to other devs!
Thanks!
