Woocommerce marketplace vs Wordpress Plugin
Hi,
Long time lurker and first time poster. I figured this post will help others as well. I have a microSaaS app that targets e-commerce. Right now, it is on Shopify but I am looking to extend it to WooCommerce.
However, I am a little confused about how to embed my app. WooCommerce have their own marketplace. However, from Googling, it seems that people do not actually use it?
For example, here is a post on IH where James Kemp from Iconic sells his plugin for WooCommerce via CodeCanyon.
So, what's the right way to sell a SaaS product to WooCommerce customers? The integration with WooCommerce is actually pretty light. I need to integrate with their API (orders, products, customers, etc), but my actual SaaS is actually more on the marketing side so I won't need to do much Wordpress development, if any.

The WooCommerce Marketplace is just a way for the makers of WooCommerce to control what plugins are shown and sold through their site. It's not a requirement by any means to sell a WooCommerce plugin. As you've already discovered, people like James Kemp have been selling plugins for WooCommerce on their own websites for years.
You could write your own WordPress plugin that interacts with your SaaS and a person's installation of WooCommerce and sell it or give it away for free. Most people who have WordPress plugins that integrate with a SaaS app use some kind of authentication key to confirm they are an active customer of the SaaS app. That might be all you need for your plugin.

WooCommerce marketplace is a better option in your scenario. I am also working on the same SAAS business model. I am offering

You can also sell plugins via codecanyon. But you must have good development skills for that business model because you have to satisfy your customers at the end of the day.
