By adopting this method, you are allowing for flexibility and adaptability within your workflow. It acknowledges the inherent uncertainties and changes that come with any project or task. It allows you to continuously refine your approach, make necessary adjustments, and stay on track without the added pressure of rigid deadlines.
\nIn conclusion, relying solely on deadlines for task management is not an effective approach, particularly for small teams and solo entrepreneurs. Instead, focus on establishing review points to evaluate progress and make necessary refinements. Embrace flexibility and adaptability, as they are key to successfully navigating the ever-changing landscape of entrepreneurship and project management.

\nIntro on the problem:\nWorking on the product as a solo-founder, I recognized that a company success is based on multiple things done at least fine. \nThere is a building, there is a marketing, there is a legal and finance; they also divided into smaller groups. One can't be really "bad" at single of them because it would question the survival of the whole venture. If a product is poor, no marketing would help, and vice versa. You get the gist. That is important to take care of various things ~simultaneously.
\nThe question: what tools or mental frameworks do you use to manage multiple tracks to keep them relevant?

In a traditional setup you’d do this in a day and then test it. But again, these rules are not set in stone, so you should adapt them to your specific case.
\nFor me because it was quite a big build, I gave it a couple weeks. But regardless of the size, or the stage of your project, you have to be very diligent in cutting off all the “nice to haves” and keeping the focus on the core functionality, so you can get it in front of users as soon as possible.
\nIn my case, I already had so much functionality and features, that I had to go in the opposite direction and ended up binning a lot of the old site, keeping pretty much the database and some basic functionality. The first release for v2.0 needed to focus on the daily launches, so I had to put a lot of the other tangent functionalities in ‘coming soon’ (there are still some of these throughout the site if you go and visit, but I’m slowly launching them one by one, taking them through this same process)

Mail, Outlook, Slack, Teams, whatever. Switch them all off. Choose a few slots in the day to consciously open your email or messaging app and deal with items you’ve received. Remember, email is the number one method for others to manage your work (instead of you managing it)!
\nGetting started, my number one method is the Pomodoro Technique, named after the inventor’s tomato-shaped kitchen timer. The technique is simple, set a timer for 25 minutes and work exclusively on the task you’ve booked out the time for. When the timer finishes, take a break for five minutes. Repeat this cycle another twice and then take a more extended break of 20 to 30 minutes. You can use any timer for this; I have an app which introduces a bit of analytics which is quite helpful.

\nSo that's how you can leverage that sly, often-problematic, incognito procrastination. But while I was digging into it, I found a lot of useful quotes from indie hackers about why they procrastinate in general, and what they do about it. I thought it might be helpful to share it here.
\nI think it's helpful to look at procrastination a little more critically, because there's more to it than being bored and distracted. I think these indie hackers hit the nail on the head:

I think of it as always hunting before you eat, even if you've already stored a bunch of food.
\nThe second insight, "artificial fatigue," is less intuitive. It's when you go out of your way to recharge with low-stimulation activities immediately following those exciting hunts and feasts — even if you aren't exactly "tired." Most high performers in disciplines with well-defined measures of success have incorporated full nights of sleep and even afternoon naps into their deliberate practice regimens. But these conventions are a lot less common in knowledge-work disciplines where it's harder to measure success, like entrepreneurship, fiction writing, etc.

\nI've used Todoist for long years, also tried Notion, using Obsidian at the moment and checked out ClickUp a few weeks ago, but there are one thing in common. I always failed to build a system and end up not using the tool of my choice regularly and productively. How do you stay organized?
\nMy aim for 2023 is to start validating my idea and eventually build it next to my day job and a 20 months old baby, so I'll have about 30-60 minutes a day to work on my side hustle. I got to have a system that helps me stay focused and do my gig without breaking the chain. Any thoughts or materials you'd recommend read / watch would be greatly appreciated! 🙂
